A Definitive Ranking of the Best Staycation Cities in the US

Does your city rank as one of the best staycation cities in the US? Find out!

Let's face it: vacations are expensive. According to American Express, the average cost of a summer vacation is $1,145 per person. So, if you're looking to save money or are saddled with credit card or student loan debt, taking a trip just might not be possible.

But that doesn't mean you can't still take a vacation. You don't have to book expensive plane tickets or pay for a hotel if you have a staycation. Google Search trends reveal that more and more people are looking for vacation opportunities in their own backyard.

With that in mind, Wallethub has put together its picks for 2015's best cities for staycations. Factors include number of swimming pools, tennis courts, public golf courses, zoos, aquariums, museums and spas. Coming in at number one is Orlando (which also ranks as number 2 in the site's list of best cities to travel to this summer.)

Here are the top 10:

  1. Orlando, FL
  2. Atlanta, GA
  3. Cincinnati, OH
  4. Scottsdale, AZ
  5. Boise, ID
  6. St. Louis, MO
  7. Pittsburgh, PA
  8. Tampa, FL
  9. Portland, OR
  10. Las Vegas, NV
